Before 1992, the name of the college was Jodhpur University. Still, on 12 February 1992, its name was changed from Jodhpur University to Jai Narain Vyas University in honor of the late Jai Narain Vyas. The current Vice Chancellor of JNVU is KL Shrivastava. The jurisdiction of JNVU College is spread over five districts, namely Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, and Pali; many colleges are affiliated with the university.

JNVU includes faculties like Science, Arts, Commerce, and Social Sciences.
